Hear, my son, and be wise, and direct your heart in the way.

Proverbs 23:19 ESV

When you have adopted wise counsel and instruction as your own, when you have committed yourself to the knowledge you were given through your ears, you will be wise. You have a mind, soul, and spirit that understand and know the truth of the universe, your role in it, and what you ought to do in most situations. You have acquired prudence and understanding, but you have not yet reached your objective.

You must direct your heart – your affections, emotions, and preferences – to the things of truth and wisdom. Love is not a power outside your mind

or body that influences you. Cupid shooting arrows of desire into your heart is both pagan and stupid; such desires are only the lusts of fools. True love is the intention of your heart for some thing, and your mind must direct your love to what is wise and good, as loving God your Father.

God has defined the way you should live in the Bible…

(Ps 119:128). He has described the extreme importance of heaven and things above (Eccl 12:13-14; II Cor 4:18). Wisdom in your mind must direct your heart to love God, heaven, and the way He has chosen for you (Col 3:2; Ps 119:36,112; Rom 12:1-2; I John 2:15; Jude 1:21). This is the true God, the true religion, and true wisdom. And it all begins with hearing! What will you do?

Find yourself a teacher who will give you the certain words of truth, by which you can acquire wisdom (22:17-21; I Pet 2:1-3). Hear him! Accept and adopt as your own the wisdom he gives you from God’s word! Then direct your affections and preferences away from foolishness and this world and toward godliness and heaven. You will please your Father and avoid all the things ready to ruin you outside His way (23:15-18,20-35).

A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.

Proverbs 15:30 NIV

We are mobile today in Knoxville TN. Our son Cooper has that cheerful look and the light in his eyes and as the Proverb predicts it does bring joy to the heart. Not just his heart but also mine. Today we are going to meet his favorite band, Third Day. When he received the good news the other day, it sure did bring “health to his bones.”

Coop knows every Third Day song by heart and when the boys sing some of their songs, especially Cry Out To Jesus, the sound is pure, innocent, and sweet. There is so much on TV and radio that kids should not watch or listen to. Even some of the stuff that is supposed to be for kids is nothing more than MTV for a younger crowd. So how did Third Day become his favorite group. After all unless you put some energy into it, there is not a lot of radio or TV stations that play Christian music.

A lot of the credit goes to my wife, Brandi. I grew up with rap, rock, and pop. I wouldn’t let our children listen to the music I did but through Brandi I realized they never heard ME listen to the music I wanted them to listen to. A couple of years ago I forced myself to listen to KLOVE and GMT. It wasn’t long until I was singing songs from Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, and other Christian artist. Today most of the songs on my iPhone are Christian and Gospel. Throw in some good uplifting country songs, sermons, and the Daily Audio Bible, and my music collection made a 180. I don’t miss my old music collection because none of the songs I use to fill my hears with lifted me up. Pimping in the hood does not tend to make the soul rise, at least mine anyway.

There isn’t a song in my old library that my son could sing that would fill my heart with the amount of faith, peace and joy I will receive tonight when my son is singing songs of praise to our Lord with my wife, the rest of the family, our preacher, and thousands of voices and hands giving glory to our God. Rise Up My Friends!

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

Proverbs 14:30 NIV

Be Thankful For What You Have
If you are reading this, there are literally millions of people who would trade places with you. They envy you and would be very grateful to enjoy all that you do. Usually the more someone has, the less thankful they become.

So how can you overcome ingratitude? Only by changing your beliefs. As long as you believe you’re getting a raw deal, or less than you deserve, you will never become a thankful person.

COLOSSIANS 3:15 CEV
15 Each one of you is part of the body of Christ, and you were chosen to live together in peace. So let the peace that comes from Christ control your thoughts. And be grateful.

An attitude of gratitude is the result of what we focus on.

Remember, you deserved punishment. Instead, God gave you what He deserved, and EVERYTHING you have — every breath — is a gift. Keep this in focus and you will become a thankful person.

(An extra bonus is that a thankful person is a happy person.)

HEBREWS 13:5 NIV
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

What could be greater? Almighty God promises to always take care of you! Never will you be forsaken! Never will you be left facing life all alone! (You may feel forsaken, but it’s a lie.)

A rewarding, satisfying, and fulfilling life does not depend on being rich. Jesus is the one who told us, and He knows.

LUKE 12:15 LB
15 Beware! Don’t always be wishing for what you don’t have. For real life and real living are not related to how rich we are.”

SAY THIS: I will be thankful.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

Proverbs 3:3 NIV

Bible verse high school football banners banned
Tonight I read an article online, it said something about a high school in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. It drew my attention because my friend since high school, now lives there with her husband where they both teach at a high school. It turned out to be one of the most uplifting things I could have noticed because tonight I am on fire to bring glory to God. I wish I could feel this fire all the time. I may not have it as much as I would like but I have it right now.

The article and video are about how the cheerleaders were forced to change the banner the high school football players run through at the beginning of their games and the response by them and the Fort Oglethorpe, GA community to this demand.

At this school the cheerleaders put a different Bible verse, every week, on a banner for the football players to run through. It has been a tradition for them since the 9/11 terror attacks. This week they have been banned from carrying out an 8 year tradition because a parent complained to the school superintendent so for legal purposes they are no longer allowed to display bible verses.

I initially found it very sad, then I had some anger, but then I found something in this that brings tremendous joy to my heart and I am sure a smile to God’s face. The football players, cheerleaders, student body, and towns people are not saying “I am sorry, if it offends someone it won’t happen again.” They are standing up for what they believe in.

The school body and towns people showed where they stand on the ban of Bible verses on the field earlier in the week when hundreds turned out for a pep rally with signs covered in scripture. The best part came on game day, when students poured into the school early Friday morning in cars with painted on bible verses covering them, dressed in t-shirts displaying verses written on them, and instead of painting their favorite player’s number on their faces they had their favorite book, chapter, and verse.

I thought it couldn’t get any better, but then game time came and a crowd of over 500 students and fans came out to show their support equipped with signs displaying phrases like Praise Jesus, He Reigns, and signs with Bible verses were everywhere. Some male students had even painted there bodies red and had Bible verses written in white all over there bodies. Others wore shirts written with scripture. All these people were displaying their love and faithfulness to our holy, gracious, and always loving God, some literally with it written on their hearts.

My friend said it was a heart filling display of a community coming together in the name of Jesus and love for our Savior. It was also a media frenzy with not only local news, but national news cameras galore.

This all started with these students, teenagers that are often written off for not caring about God or his word. Our society seems to set these kids up to have wild, crazy fun. Some say it is what you are suppose to do when your young, so party it up. Life isn’t about that, it is about bringing glory to God, honoring him with all your heart and soul.

The cheerleaders might not have banners with Bible verses anymore, but the parking lots, stadium stands, fans, signs, and town are going to be covered in scripture. All Living Faith Out loud!

But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks heart and understanding (moral principle and prudence); he who does it is destroying his own life.

Proverbs 6:32 AMP

Adultery is self-destructive insanity! While stealing due to hunger can be understood, though the theft must be repaid, adultery cannot be understood (6:30-31). There is no necessity or pressing circumstances for this heinous crime, though the temptation may be great; it involves a much worse violation of others than merely taking some food; and it blots a reputation and deserves punishment that cannot be stayed by any payment.

Solomon and his wife taught and warned their son about the horrible danger of strange women (6:20-35). Whorish women, whether prostitutes, fornicators, or adulteresses, pose one of the greatest threats to the lives and souls of men, especially young men. These two devoted parents plainly and forcefully condemned this depraved crime for his safety.

The context drives the interpretation. Stealing to satisfy hunger is one thing. Men will not despise a thief or his crime in such a situation, even though they will require repayment to the full extent of his assets (6:30-31). However, adultery is a capital crime, in which men, privately and politically, despise the offender and his offence (6:32-35).

Such a man destroys his soul by destroying his reputation and sacrificing his very life, not just his assets! Rather than stealing to sustain his soul, or life (6:30), he commits adultery and sacrifices his soul, or life (6:32). There is no understanding of this offence; there is no way to undo it; there is no repayment. It is a heinous sin to be punished (Job 31:9-12).

The contrast between…

stealing for survival and adultery is valuable. First, adultery has no necessity and thus shows a brutish and profane spirit; it proves a lack of understanding. Second, though stealing required extensive restitution in God’s law, adultery was a capital crime in His holy judgment. Third, the reproach lasts much longer, even indefinitely, as it does to this day for David. Fourth, stolen goods may be repaid, but there is no way to repay stolen pleasures. No ransom or gift can compensate for adultery.

The proverb is a general rule: a severe warning to Solomon’s son, without qualifications or exceptions, which would only dilute the force of the lesson. The Preacher knew how his father and mother had met – in an adulterous bed. The man after God’s own heart before and after, David had showed a total lack of judgment, bondage to his base and wanton lusts, and the desperate measures of a murderer to cover his shameful crime. Though forgiven by God and men, and empowered to continue in his offices, David had the stigma of this sin on his life from that day until now. Though repenting with some of the deepest grief recorded in all of Scripture, he endured chastening from God in various forms for the rest of his life. Though never repeating the sin, the one event likely corrupted the morals of several children i.e. Amnon, Absalom, Adonijah, and Solomon.

God’s wisdom conveyed by this proverb makes adultery a terrible sin with horrible consequences. But the world glamorizes it through the entertainment media and by the lifestyles of those in the public eye. The civil government, rather than being the judge and executioner for such crimes, ignores it altogether. Churches, rather than identifying and excluding such offenders, preach a frothy brand of forgiveness and look the other way.

Therefore, it is wisdom to hate this sin with all your might. It is wisdom to avoid any thing that tempts you to commit this heinous crime. It is wisdom to never let Hollywood break down your resistance by novels, soundtracks, or enticing dramas to enjoy this wicked act vicariously. It is wisdom to seek a government based on the Bible. It is wisdom to find a church where adultery is preached against and offenders are punished.
