Are your addictions God’s fault?

People ruin their lives by their own stupidity, so why does God always get blamed?
Proverbs 19:3 MSG
There are some things that happen in this world that we all want to ask God about. We just don’t or can’t understand some of the atrocities that occur. Through the Son, we will one day have full understanding and knowledge of the Father. Proverbs however is the living manual according to God. He is already telling us how to live so we can’t blame him for self inflicted wounds we create ourselves.
God is a loving God and will carry us through anything if we are willing to ask, listen, and obey. The problem for most of us is we substitute the Lord’s love for other things that ruin our spirit. Sex, pills, cigarettes, alcohol, food, drugs, TV, or insert your crutch here, only temporary relieve us of our pain or stress. Anything other than the Lord that we turn to help us deal with life is false hope and help. Think about what you turn to when you are completely stressed. What ever it is you need more of it then you did years ago and it doesn’t even have the same healing power it used to. This quickly leads to addiction. We then need our crutch just to feel normal but normal isn’t normal anymore. We then blame God and demand he get us out of this.
I wish I could give you my testimony and tell you that one day I hit my lowest point and everything changed the day I gave everything to God. For some people this happens but for stubborn, have to learn the hard way people like me it doesn’t work that way. I can tell you though that the growth of my faith worked the same way as my addictions did. It started small and snowballed. I’m not where I want to be but I am not where I was. The only reason I am not where I want to be is simply because I have still not given complete control to the Lord. That’s not God’s fault that is mine.
I wanted to pass along the lyrics and video to a Jeremy Camp song called One Day at a Time. For most people, it was one day at a time to get where they are and it will be one day at a time to get where they want to be. You wake up one day and say how did I get here. God can turn everything around instantly if you let him. If you are stubborn like me, then start one day at time and begin the journey to your new life.

Thank you for the daily Proverb and thank you for being honest about your testimony. I’m on the same path or at least similiar and it was nice to read about you. Nice to know I’m not the only one. God is helping me and I am finally letting him do it. God bless.
Thank you for your insight. It’s very true when we lose patience on something but lose patience we substitue with things that only provide temporary happiness.
God bless
